The Story...
As far as I can remember I watched this movie when I am on my high school days, I like it from the beginning because the characters are singing then they continue the after the song. The story began when a stranger came to their town and in a certain coincidence Victor Van Dort and Lady Victoria wedding rehearsal. Before the wedding rehearsal, Victor and his parents pay a visit for his future wife, Victoria. Both of their parents are having a tea while Victor is left alone. He saw a piano, and then suddenly he plays the piano to give it a try. On the meanwhile Victoria is getting ready when she heard a melody she tried to figure out who’s playing it. She saw her future groom ( Victor). They had a little conversation…Because of that conversation a certain connection has been develop for the both of them.
Victor is very nervous on their wedding rehearsal, he couldn’t do right actions. The stranger that I mentioned before, he is Lord Barkis. He saw that there is a wedding rehearsal so he decided to take a look. Pastor Galswells is very mad at Victor because he is not prepared. He announced that he is not really ready to get to a marriage because of criticize Victor ran away. He found himself on deep forest. He decided to take a break for himself. He knew that he loves Victoria but he is not really ready so he practices reciting the vows of marriage on the deep forest.
When he put the ring to a wooden stick he was shocked because it grabs his arms down. He opposes the force to get his arms then a lady suddenly appeared in front of his eyes and said, “I do.” He decided to run as fast as he could to get away from the ghost lady. He stops running when he saw the front of their town, he thought that the ghost lady cannot follow him now but he is wrong. The ghost lady performs the last ceremony of wedding …. She kissed her groom then he fell unconscious. When he wake up he saw many dead people around him having a celebration, they thought that he is a new arrival (a dead one) but they are wrong but they didn’t figure it out. He is confused so take a sword on a dwarf but since he can’t pull it, he just used it as his shield so that they can answer his questions. He asked “Where am I? And who are you?” They answered his question in a song. The song is about his wife (Corpse bride). A stranger came to her town and asks her to be his bride but he doesn’t love her instead he is down to her cash. Her parents did not allow it so they planned to elope. They will see each other late at night on the old oak tree. She must be dressed as a bride and she will bring some jewels and money. She waited then a shadow appeared and when she woke up she is dead and her heart was bust so she make a vow lying under the tree that she will wait for her true love to set her free.
Victor is still confused. He couldn’t believe that he is married to a corpse. His corpse bride (Emily) gave him a present (his dead dog). He wanted her to meet his parents and asked for their approval, they ask the help so that they can go to the place of the living so that she could meet the parents of Victor but on the other hand he has another plan -to meet Victoria and tell her everything why he is still missing. Emily’s maggot tells her to do not believe on her husband words instead you will end up hurting yourself. She didn’t listen to it. When they reach their destination, Victor went to Victoria to tell her everything that had happen to him. He left his bride wondering in the town. Victoria was surprised when she saw a corpse behind Victor on the other hand Emily saw her husband’s another woman so she decided to go back to the place of the dead with him.
While Victor’s parents decided to look for him. On their way Mayhew died because of heart attack left the couple’s carriage without a driver. Victoria asked the pastor’s help so that she could help Victor on his situation but nobody believed on him and much worst is her parents decided her to marry Lord Barkis. When Emily and Victory came back, she is still disappointed on what she had seen. She knows that it is hard to accept that her husband has another woman. Victor tried to consort her by playing the piano with her. He apologizes on his acts and his bride accepts his apology. He met his servant (Mayhew). He asked the condition up there, he cannot believe that Victoria is going to get married to another man. Because of disappointment, he looks for some place to help him think silently. He heard his wife (Emily) having conversation to her friends. They stated that there is a complication on their vows. She is dead already but her husband isn’t and in order to keep their marriage her husband must die. She said in tears that she couldn’t ask her husband to die for her but she was shock when he enters the room willing to surrender his life for their marriage.
They decided to gather everyone and celebrate their wedding upstairs while everybody is very busy, on the land of the living Victoria is gathering her strength to accept the fact that she is getting married to someone she doesn’t love. She is now officially married to Lord Barkis. They are celebrating the marriage on their mansion. Their feast is just little compared to Victor and Emily’s wedding. Their celebration was interrupt because those who died decided to celebrate the wedding on the same mansion. Fear and confusion has been gathered. The town is very surprised when they saw their dead love ones are here. They are all scared. A little boy went to his dead grandfather with a smile on his face stop the panic of the town folk. Victoria and Lord Barkis are left alone. He confronted his wife about her dowry because it is her right! She answered that her parents doesn’t have any money and her marriage to him is the only way to save them from the poor house. He couldn’t believe on what he had heard. On the other hand Victor is getting married to Emily.She is so happy but when she saw Victoria she realized that this is wrong because he is not meant for her but instead he is meant for Victoria. Lord Barkis interrupt their happy ending by chasing her wife from Victor. Emily recognizes Lord Barkis’s face. He is the one who murdered her. She helped Victor to win by using her dead body as a shield for him. Due to lose, Lord Barkis drink the wine beside him but he didn’t know that it is a poison. He become dead.Now Emily’s friend tried to avenge her while Emily’s spirit is now free.
